The Flight Of The Flamingo

This was taken on my trip to Naivasha a month ago. We had driven out to the lake, and were going to have a nice campfire and some drinks by the lake. The flamingo’s were midning their own business, when our driver decided to drive closer to them, causing them to fly off in a frenzy.
I didn’t have a lot of time to capture this shot, as I was sitting on top of the car while we were driving around, and so it’s not a very clear and focused photography, however I added it up as I thought it would be a great way to describe some of the things that I, if I had the chance to be in this position, and recapture this photo, would have changed.
I feel that the photograph, in general, is rather dark. The main reason for this was it was sundown time. I’d be curious to know how well a flash would have worked on a shot like this, as the flamingo’s were in motion, and rather far away. Anyway, this definitely needs more light and brightness – especially to help create a stronger contrast between the flamingos and the scenery behind them.
I really like the general way in which some of the birds are in flight, while others are in the water. If I could retake this photo, I think I would have liked to try and focus on a few more of the birds, making them a focal point, rather than having the majority of the birds lost in the blur. I would probably have tried to focus on one of the birds that were already in flight, which would have been hard to capture.

That’s awesome; I look forward to seeing your photos of all things Kenyan. ^_^
You have wild flamingos there? I’ve only seen actual pink flamingos once, in a zoo when I was way younger. I do like how you captured them both in the water and flying; it makes for a sort of, uh, flamingo-gradient effect? ;D Haha.
Most of the animals we have are wild – I think we have an animal orphanage, for abandoned babies we find… as well as for injured animals – they treat them at the orphanage. Otherwise, all the animals are wild
Haha, a flamingo-gradient effect
